Fortunately, the times when people had their teeth cured without anesthesia are in the past. People have different pain limits, and one patient can easily endure a certain manipulation, while for some other the pain will be unbearable. And there is a reason to fear - strong pain may cause severe stress and even provoke depressed case!
Strong pain is especially harmful for children. Of course, nowadays due to new anesthetics children have less fear of dentists, which means better chances to keep their teeth healthy and beautiful.
Anyway, despite all the medical progress pediatric dentistry still has a lot of problems to work on. Mentality of a child is quite different from that of an adult. Even if the child doesn't feel pain and trusts the dentist, he can hardly sit still, which means he will impede doctor's work. Anesthetic gels and sprays are much better for the child than a syringe and an injection, but child's behavior at the dentist's often turns out to be completely unpredictable.
Every mother knows how difficult it is to persuade the child to go to the dentist. No wonder, every child is afraid to be hurt.
To solve the problem of dental treatment of children as well as adults who have low pain limit, pronounced vomiting reflex or allergy for local anesthetics, or for patients who need a large amount of dental treatment (many teeth to be cured or extracted) there is a modern technique of dental treatment under general anesthesia.
There are many reasons to choose children's treatment under general anesthesia.
Firstly, the child will feel no fear during treatment - he will be peacefully asleep, and when he wakes up, his teeth will be safe and sound.
Secondly, the dentist will work smoothly and securely, without interference, so no mistakes will be made because of nervousness.
Besides, when it comes to treating children's teeth, it is extremely important to cure as many teeth as possible during one visit, and there in no better way to do it than general anesthesia.
Many parents don't agree to put their children under general anesthesia, considering it harmful for health. This opinion is wrong - - there are mild medicines with no side effects for general anesthesia for children, and the treatment is monitored by an experienced anesthesiologist. Stress from fear and pain is far more harmful for your child's health!
The term "anesthesia" implies intravenous injection of medicine that provide following effects: elimination of fear, calming down the patient, elimination of pain, psychological and emotional relaxation of the patient; putting the patient to sleep of different depth (the depth of sleep depends on the doses of anesthetic, which are chosen according to the purpose), suppression of nausea and vomiting reflex, and no memories about dental manipulations.
Before approving general anesthesia a general check-up of the patient's health is made. It includes :
Anesthetics are chosen individually, , considering all contraindications and individual intolerance of certain medications. First of all the patient is being prepared to anesthesia by administering him certain sedatives in pills. Teeth treatment under general anesthesia is done only in specially equipped clinics that have all the necessary facilities to monitor heart and lungs performance during the manipulations.
Treatment of patients under general anesthesia is done in specially equipped clinics by highly qualified dentists. Doctor's office for dental treatment under general anesthesia is equipped with the latest facilities. They include cardiomonitor, anesthetic breather, pulse oximeter, automatic energometer.)
The patient will be under constant supervision of anesthesiologist, who will use latest equipment to monitor your sleep as well as blood pressure, breathing, oxygen saturation of your blood and heart performance.
Modern general anesthetics are used in safe minimal doses. They don't suppress breathing, get out of system very fast (you can be on your way home as soon as in thirty minutes) and cause no complications.
Dentistry today is safe,
not scary and completely painless!
